At least I haven't been doing the same job.
Bro Bob called and he has installed the only annoyware program out there for the mac. It's called MacKeeper. It is supposed to be the end all be all for keeping your mac from getting viruses, or spam, and keeps junk off the computer so it is always optimised and as fast as it can me. It starts out free, then starts bugging you about upgrades. It slows down you computer because all the stuff it monitors and is always interupting you. It's technically not a virus or spam, but it is spamming you to get you buy all the individual features.
My other brother installed it an it took almost a whole day to clean all the freakin files it installs out of the system.
Asked both of them if they had any viruses, were getting a lot of spam, or their computer was running slow, and they said no. Asked why they would install that software if they weren't having any of those problems? Especially if it is software they hear about from getting emails from them. AND it is NOT sold thru the Apple App Store. A sure sign that software is not on the up and up.
And this was after I've told them I don't run anything like that but if they think they need to run something like that they can get MalwareBytes for free from the Apple App Store.
Why don't they listen?
Bob even installed it, then uninstalled it and guess what? It keeps popping up telling him he needs protected. He said it shouldn't do that because he didn't install it. Told him that's why i told him to stay away from it.
