Hygienic Store. This is a local icon, used as a reference to give directions around this side of the island.
We are going to turn right (N) here. If you take a left turn, you will pass the Valley of Temples and Puu Ma’eli’eli trail.
Turning (N) on Kahekili Hwy, you first pass Mike's Huli Chicken, which is right across the street from the Hygienic Store. It is famous! They use Kiawe wood, and season with traditional Hawaiian sea salt. Besides huli chicken, you can get shrimp, ahi and Kalua Pig dishes. *Note* Mikes has moved as of 3/19 to Kuu’lau, near where the Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck is located.

The Waiahole Poi Factory. Poi is a Polynesian staple made from the root of the taro plant. This restaurant processes poi, and also has a restaurant serving kalua pig, squid, beef and chicken dishes.
