Back in 2011 I was at Roebling Road in my 911 chewing up tires and having fun. I had done two 20 minute sessions by lunch time. The local dealer had a box stock right from the showroom floor, Cayman R there. They hired a "local driver" that said it was his home track. They were giving rides and I went out with him in the red group, with other instructors in race prepped cars.

That Cayman R was just orders of magnitude faster than my old 85 911. At the end of the straight, into turn one I was hard on the imaginary brake pedal on my side and he was still accelerating, he slowed just a bit, and we rocketed around the corner. It was a really fast ride, and the driver was in 100% control like driving a slot car. It made me list for one. Then I remembered my faithful 911 that has been paid for since the last millennium, and I did two more 20 minute sessions, and drove it all the way home with no issues on the same tires.
Don't get me wrong. I will NEVER sell my '84 911 Carrera. It has a kinetic feel that the heavier Cayman can not match. The nibbly front tires when turning in a parking lot, to the bolt action shifter on the 915 with the Wevo is simply not something that I'll ever give up. I MIGHT be tempted to trade in the 2011 Cayman if something more to my liking comes up, but to me it's not worth it. The harsher GTS and R are sort of what the Turbo was to the Carrera. If I wanted the Turbo, then I'd have gotten one.
