You probably broke the rear end parts of the transmission. Mine went one day while cruising down the road at normal speed and everything!

I could drive the car, but loud clunks came from the rear end...similar to what you hear.

I wouldn't replace anything yet. Reach into the transmission with a magnet and see if any chunks collect on it. Then you'll know if you've broken the internals of the rear end.
