The winter we started keeping chickens we built a coop and run for the birds to live in. We had no plans of going anywhere, so we built it big, strong and heavy. Our neighbor kids loved the chickens and were over there daily holding them and feeding them and picking eggs.
A year later when we moved to our new place we thought we had an adequate place for the birds, so we gave the PULLET PALACE and two of the chickens to the kids.
Turns out the chicken's new home wasn't all that great. They were still laying, but were pissed off, picking each other's feathers, and generally unhappy. So a couple weeks ago MrsWD and I set out to build SON OF PULLET PALACE. This one is a little smaller and is on skids so we can pull it around the property.
The original PULLET PALACE was stationary and had wire on all size sides. It is a vault!
I had to kick my Volkswagen out of its parking space to have room to build.
There are still a few places that need work, I'm short a couple of hasps and I need to paint some wood I added after the painting fiasco.
I tried to save money on this one. The shingles are some spares that the previous owner left in the barn. There was also a stack of about 20 51' long pressure treated 2x6 in the loft (I don't know why), so a 2x6 got used in a lot of places where a 2x4 would do. All the wood that is in contact with the ground is pressure treated. The rest was painted by my neighbor and MrsWD.

They spilled and wasted as much paint as they go on the wood, so I went over it and hit the spots they missed, then gave it an overall coat of paint.
