I've installed a Surge protector on each of the 200Amp service panels for our house, and one on the 200Amp panel in my shop. They protect everything in the house. We've had several severe storms in the area in the past 8 years, and other than a lightening strike that entered the house from the alarm wiring running out to the shop that took out the alarm circuit board, we've had no issues with anything connected via house power.
