The Porsche 911 RSR: the company’s mid-engined GT racer is here! It's a pretty big update from what we initially saw in 2016. Porsche said, "The only components that we’ve kept unchanged from the predecessor are the headlights, brake system, clutch, driver’s seat and parts of the suspension." One of the big updates was increasing the NA flat-six engine from 4.0L to 4.2L, which is said to be a new unit able to produce 510bhp. From it they can expect better drivability over a wider rev-band when compared to the old engine. Can't wait to hear it!
Porsche said the engine is accented with a 'more rigid' six-speed sequential gearbox that shifters faster and more efficiently. You can see the new exhaust pipe placement giving them the ability for better rear aero that produces more downforce. It'll be taking to the track September 1st at the first round of the WEC season at Silverstone. Customer teams won't be able to purchase one for themselves until 2020/2021.
