I liked Nazi Zombies. I would hit the treasure chest and hope for a BAR and a Ray Gun. Before that, in the 90's I did burn time with Doom on the PC.
Any Call of Duty/Halo play vs a youngster was pathetic. If I saw them, I was dead within a second. So slow. You need to burn that skill in when you are under 10. I did ok against the machine on moderate level but never a skilled human.

The guy that lives across the street from my BIL is 80ish years old and plays Call of Duty, sometimes up all night smack talking 10 years olds. We laugh that he is gaming at that age and think it is awesome.
Have 2 sons that game (one 26 other 15) I have played them all and like you in the 90's was a big time Wolfenstein / Doom /Quake / Duke Nukeem player.
I did the whole Halo thing wiht my older son when he was younger and recently the entire Destiny thing with my younger son.
When Minecraft was beta testing I purchased 3 copies for myself and my 2 sons, we were all on there together building things and surviving. Buying it back then granted you lifetime access to the game, we can still log in and play today all these years later. All for $60 invested 10 years ago +/-
About a year ago I purchased and downloaded the Wolfenstein reboot game on Steam and really enjoyed it, took about a week to beat it. This one however seems to be really complicated and involved, I can tell it will be a huge time investment. I guess just go at my own pace it will always be there when I want it.
Yes rwest - I agree, if it takes my mind off day to day stress then I am for it.
