I was really hoping that the new series would be Chris Harris, Rory Reid, and some third newcomer. I think not promoting Reid is a travesty as I really enjoyed him and it was obvious that he had real car knowledge.
The two new guys are a comedian named Paddy McGuiness (I kid you not) and a former cricket player named Freddie Flintoff. I think it has potential. I missed the first 15 minutes as my DVR didn't recognize it as a show that I have a recording schedule for. I think the first show was "meh" but I'll let them get their act together. I'll give them two seasons to get their crap together, because that's about as long as it took for Clarkson, May, and Hammond to put on a good show.
Matt LeBlanc left because he was spending 6 months a year in the U.S. doing a sitcom and six months a year in the U.K. doing Top Gear, and it was wearing on him.
I also see that the U.S. version of Top Gear is changing staff and channels again. That's too bad as I enjoyed both previous versions (treating them as obscure U.S. car shows rather than comparing them to the mother ship). I guess the good news is that Adam Carolla is joining the new one.
