I replaced mine with a weatherpack connector. Since the Bosch 02 sensor no longer has the female plug, that end would have needed to be spliced anyway.
The wire connected to the male end is shielded with braided copper, and my understanding is that you can confuse the sensor if you accidentally splice in the shielding with the actual sensor wire. While it isn't factory, it did solve my problem and was relatively inexpensive ($30 or so dollars if I remember for the single pin connector and Packard crimpers).
