I am going to need a permit from the city soon for the garage, and am in the process of clearing up problems with the deck the PO put on the house that is not to code. So I have been extremely polite, given (a) the protracted amount of dealings we are going to have; and (b) I'm extremely polite by nature. I think they can smell that sort of thing, and some capitalize on it to flex their power in your face a little bit more.
