In answer to your curiosity Fred:
Raccoons only have canine teeth like a dog, and could not create those 1/2-3/4" wide flat bite marks.
Squirrels and Groundhogs have the front incisors, but it would have to have been very big.
Something must have been stuck inside the hood like a youngling to have it scratch like that.
Or there must have been desperate for prized food it thought it smelled.
Or the damn critter was plain rabid.
