Loretto Chapel's "Miraculous Staircase" with added handrails. As originally built (second pic below) - the sisters were so afraid of falling off the went up on their hands and knees. The mother superior eventually commissioned the balustrade.
The Cathedral of Santa Fe, whose construction by Bishop Lamy is part of the wonderful Willa Cather novel, Death Comes for the Archbishop.
