Back in the day when I was working McDonnell Douglas, St. Louis, one of the test pilots had to land an F15 and catch the cable 'cause he lost hydraulic pressure. He got the Golden Boot award for that too. And yes, St. Louis does have a runway with arresting gear on runway 6.
Here is a Google Earth image of the arresting cable for RWY 6. It is kept below the surface until needed. I wonder how often they have to service the arresting cable to make sure it is ready when needed.
