Use the rubber mallet and tap at the engine and transmission mating then they will separate. If after tapping they still not separated use flat screwdriver try to slowly ply them out begin at the starter because near the starter there are little room for flat screwdriver. I just did the same for my 75 911s last week to replace the transmission nose-cone seal.
