A small crack in a CV boot can go years, decades without causing any problems.

It looks like pelican sells half shafts for around $130.
I'm betting that shop charged quite a bit more than that, not including the half hour of labor.
Maybe a grand? More, less?
For something that might be questionable.
Steve, did you actually see the crack and could you tell us if it was a small crack as described or was it torn and flinging grease?
