There seem to be a lot of skunks in one particular area of Los Angeles, the Los Feliz/Silverlake neighborhood. It’s a very frequent smell and maybe it’s an acquired thing but I really don’t mind it. As someone else said, though, it’s probably because it’s muted...in the distance.
