402 is a 396 +.030 (bore of 4.124 vs 4.094). The 396 was available starting in 1965 and the 402 started in 1970.
A HS buddy had a '70 El Camino with a 402.
Actually, the Full Size (Impala, Caprice, Biscayne) was available with the 425hp 396 in 1965. It was a weird year since the 1965 Impala could be had with a 409hp/409 or a 425hp/396 as well as the other small blocks.
Yeah, I think the 425hp version was only available in the Corvette and full size cars in 1965.
