Update for anyone still bothering to read!

Last post was in April. Since then, we got the car running but idle was a little high (1100ish rpm) and I’d still get some oil leaking down from one of the cylinders and from the back by the oil pressure switch.

Not entirely happy so we hit the reset button and dropped the motor again. Everything came apart. Cylinder head studs were loose to our surprise so at least we didn’t have to worry about broken studs.
Sent everything off to the machine shop. Then it’ll be new valves, piston rings, pretty much an entire top end.
While I bought this car with 74k miles on the odometer, true mileage is unknown as I don’t have all service records. However, looking at the inside of the cylinder heads was surprising because you could still see the cross hatching! It makes me think it really is a 74k mileage car. I’ve attached some pics. Will check on the case thru bolt to see if it’s stripped, but will most likely split the case anyway.

While the motor is out, we have decided to gut and repaint in the original Gulf Blue. Previous owner had it repainted and the imperfections were bothering us.

Hoping it’s ready for F1 weekend in Austin. My wife and I are planning on bringing it down for the Hill Country PCA BBQ event at Franklin BBQ Friday night.
