I live in the Stuart area I am just north of stuart across a river. Yes, it is a very beautiful area but it is starting to get too crowded. It used to be a sleepy little area in the summer snowbirds will double the population in the winter. Now subdivisions are popping up all over the place and tons of people are moving in full time. Now in the winter the traffic is horrible and the snowbirds fill the roads with the worst drivers imaginable.
In 2004 when Francis was coming at us, my younger son was 1. We decided to get away. At 10 pm the night before the storm I left and went to Key West, the weather was perfect and our son got his first haircut there, we got a certificate. It grandfathers him in so he can call himself a conch now.

. I suspect you know this already, a KW native is called a conch.
My plan for this storm, I wanted to go to KW, wife wanted to only go as far south as necessary. We compromised with Brickell Village in Miami. Now we are staying put.
You are correct we can run out of south. If this storm had hit Palm Beach, like Nota predicted, then I was going to head towards Melbourne, which is 70 miles north of me and gets me 120ish miles from Palm Beach.
Downtown Stuart waterfront. They have a deck on the water, ever Sunday afternoon there is a free concert under those sails. Usually some sort of rock or blues band plays.
