The difference being, people in NO had a chance and places they could go, unlike a small island.

I agree. I am of the opinion to get the house sorted and GTFO.
The situation we are in here is different there is a big chance we are not going to get much, we may see hurricane force winds it all depends on the turn.
Even with Cat2 and Cat 3 storms I prefer to leave and go somewhere else and enjoy electricity, nice showers and peace and quiet.
Some people thrive on the thrill of riding out a storm, I have rode out some and it is way over rated.
Best hurricane I ever missed, Francis 2004, I was in Key West for 4 days while it sat over my house for 48 hours and churned away. I was on Duval street drinking and being a tourist in beautiful weather. Then we drove back the moment we could.
Then Jeanne hit 2 weeks later, we tried to move out of its way and ended up in it in Tampa. That sucked.
Wilma in 05 we rode out, it sucked I did not sleep nothing happened, we sat in the dark house with no power and no AC and it just sucked.
I prefer to leave, the wife likes to stay or if we leave only go as far as necessary. She says I stress her out because I want to get back the moment we can, which I think makes sense. Seems more stressful to me to sit in a house with wind howling over it.
