Walking through the Indy pits last week in St Louis, I spotted Roger Penske outside his trailer. He had stepped out and perhaps regretted it, as a small group of fans pounced on him. He was gracious, though, and was nice when I thanked him for all he has done for the sport. I briefly considered slipping him my racing resume and phone number in case one of the Team Penske lads faltered, but thought better of it.
Indycar really gives amazing access. We spent qualifying right down in the pits, which are really humming, with the three round knockout qualifying system they use. It's almost as exciting as the race. This is Hinchcliffe right before it started.
My son got to meet a couple of his heroes. Rosenqvist is a terrific driver--glad Ganassi re-signed him for next year. He's also a really nice guy, as they all pretty much are. Indycar seems to be on an upswing, and I think a lot of it has to do with how much access the fans have to the drivers. Plus the greatest racing out there.
