Be careful with that, Mike, and don't assume anything. Here in Washington our CCW's allow us to carry firearms, and only firearms. Knives beyond a certain length are illegal in some cities, like Seattle. So are "dirks" or daggers, brass knuckles, and too sharp of a whit (sorry, couldn't help myself...).
Keep working with your pup. I bet once you get moving, and she gets some wind in her hair, she will forget all about the noise. I think she would eventually grow to love it, and maybe even come running when she hears it start. Try starting it before she gets in, so it's running as she approaches it. Maybe have someone hold her leash while you putt up and down the street a few times. Slowly get her used to the noise and maybe she will warm up to it.
