The reason I asked is a couple of years ago I learned that on many US Navy ships they just add sea water to their fuel tanks as they use fuel. I was shocked, but apparently they have everything the need on board to separate out the water before it hits the engines, and besides, they've no room for the vast amount of water they need when their fuel tanks are low.
