I'm calling BS on that.
5.5 inch is just 3.8 inch of barrel left after chambering 5.56 NATO
and only 3.5 inch for 7.62 NATO
556 will poorly and 762 definitely not stabilize properly in a 5.5" barrel.
It would need stupid twist levels and would have a muzzle blast like the BB IOWA's 16 inch guns. And Naff all velocity.
Basically you are blowing unburnt powder out the muzzle at that point.
There is just no point to using those calibers if you want 5.5 inch shorty barrels, you might as well just get 135 grain 10mm AUTO have better kinetic energy in the bullet.. then you would with 5.56
And if it takes a "special" 5.56 with faster powder, and heavier bullet, then it's no longer 5.56 nato but a new caliber.
