Years ago, I had a manager that almost any time anyone asked him how he was, his answer would be "Fantastic," "Outstanding," etc..., and he sold it with a huge smile. After working with him for a while, it struck me, he changed the attitudes of everyone within ear shot whenever he did that. Steve, that's really cool that it's worked for you, I can see how it would.
Random (key element) positive impact on others around you is a terribly fun and great way to go through life. Keeps you young in your mind like when we were kids. I was having dinner with a friend who I haven't seen in person for years (moved away) and we were talking about life philosophies. She practices the same and we got to talking about the challenge of response or really lack thereof sometimes. The "return" is in the act itself, not the response and that's sometimes hard to internalize. Expectation is counter the philosophy, then it becomes about you and not about giving. This was all centered around a third friend and her experience with them but it really brought home that it's about the action for it's own sake and not their reaction.
