The appearance of the stomp depends on the consistency of the compound. If you add water and thin the compound you'll get a lighter texture than you will with a thicker compound. In your picture it looks like a crows foot brush was used to stomp the ceiling not a mop. When I was finishing the marriage line in my manufactured homes I'd use a double crows foot brush then thin the compound, then apply some to see how my texture looked compared to the original. Once I had the compound thin enough to match the texture I'd dip the brush in the texture and start stomping!
