Used to be around bars back in the day...pay the bartender something like two bits a punch, if lucky, win some item behind the bar. My dad was a sucker for them...would often bring home a cheap something or other. I still have some of his "prizes"...couple of japan made wind up toys, hunting knives with plastic handles.
Local elks lodge had them...a private club. Didn't see them in bars open to the public. There..if you were "in", the gambling was pinball, the non plunger style.
All seems kind of innocent today, with most states having lottery machines. Clever of them. The run the gambling, then collect taxes for their "service" of helping the gambling addict.
