Phew, the bosses made me "help her" out in the garden. The composter we have is a neat idea, just a bit under-designed. It is an old 55 gallon plastic barrel with a rod through the middle that it will rotate on. The rod is bolted to a frame that is all made from plastic 2x4s.
The problem is the plastic 2x4s are just not up to the pressure exerted on the bolts that hold the frame together. The bolts have worn the holes into a oblong shape because the plastic cracked and allowed movement in the fittings.
I had to disassemble the frame, and I will have to go get some 3.5 inch wide 1/6 inch thick aluminum sheets and drill tow 1/2 inch holes in one end. Those will act as the strain relief for the plastic. I would use steel sheets but I don't have a plasma cutter and I just don't want to fabricate 6 of the braces from steel. Aluminum will be plenty strong. The plastic lasted several years.
