Something I learned is that GM commonly can't sell all of it's cars from year to year. They even have a program to subsidize dealerships that pays the dealership money to essentially convert unsold cars to "used" cars. Some of these "new" cars are years old.
My F-I-L works at a Toyota dealership, but the owner of the dealership also owns a Cadillac/GMC dealership. They have brand-new Cadillacs on the lot now that are 2017 models.
