Restoration Color Choices: Original, or Not?

Hello Forum Members,

I just purchased a 1977 911S Targa with the intent of slowly restoring the car, and the more I drive a black car with a black interior in southern California the more I think I might prefer a different color combination. But how much will that impact the resale value, should I choose to sell?

The paint is in not-so-great condition, could definitely use a re-spray, but there's no rust and no dents or scratches; just age and wear. The interior, however, needs love: the seats are worn, the leather on the steering wheel needs to be re-stitched, and the carpet-y material that is exposed when the rear seats are folded down is cracking. The driver's side door pocket needs to be rebuilt. The lower dashboard foam to the left of the steering wheel is cracking. Other than that, though, the interior is fine.

Black is a great color for the paint, although I might prefer a more subtle sliver. But I'd much prefer a tan interior rather than the current black. What are your thoughts, would changing the interior color kill resale value? Thanks so much for reading.
