Many opinions here for sure. And it really depends on what your intentions with the car are? Keep it forever? Put it together and sell it? Show it? If you intend to keep it forever, I would paint it whatever color, period correct for that year, that you really want. The caveat being the color change would need to be done correctly. That really means disassembling the car and media blasting to remove all of the old color and then repainting it the color you want.
If you are just looking to clean it up and not dig deep into your wallet, I would just have it resprayed in the original black color. I personally like black with cork interior and believe that would look terrific.
Just a cautionary note, please find someone who knows what they are doing and whose work you can actually see at various stages. Also, document the entire process with plenty of in-progress photos showing all of the various steps and work. That is what will help sell the car when you mention the respray. People will not open their wallets for a car where it just says repainted in factory color. Paint hides all sorts of short cuts for a while before they resurface.
Don't rush. Don't limit your painter search to your immediate area either. Renting a U-Haul trailer to tow the tub back and forth is relatively inexpensive.
Finally, I have no idea where in the World you are located. I appreciate it when members list their city/state so we can all zero in on resources if we have them to offer.
