Well, there’s a color change and then there’s a complete color change.
If you are talking about having someone spray the surface a different color, leaving the door jams, frunk, etc. Then I think you’ll hurt the value – If buying, I personally wouldn’t consider a car like that, unless it was a really,really good deal. Many will interpret this as a tendency to skimp on work that probably extends to other areas. You’d be better off with a wrap, or just doing a nice repaint in black.
If you are talking about taking the car apart and doing a thorough color change, then I don’t think it will hurt value (may add value, since some of us have vowed never to buy another black car)– given the parameters of the car (as others have stated). Especially if you use that as an opportunity to address other interior items you mention. Keep in mind that now you are knocking on the door of a full cosmetic restoration. $$$
High cost job = minimal or positive impact to price
Lower cost job / color change = negative impact to price
Lower cost job in Black = probably best value… but not the color you want.
