A few weeks later I flew to Chicago on business. After meetings I called an UBER to see a friend in the hospital. My account said I had charges in arrears totaling $225. I had no choice but to pay in order to get to my friend. And then the saga with UBER customer service went on for 6 months until one night at dinnner a call on my cell from a Georgia area code. A real human! It took about 30 mins to explain it all but it got resolved. They kicked me $20 in Credit for 6 months of emails. Oh well. Rant over.
When you got to the part of the story where you paid $225 in order to be able to order another Uber, I would have very quickly installed Lyft on my phone. Or called a cab. I have both Left and Uber apps and compare prices almost every time I request a ride. I've also never had any issues like I'm reading about here but I sympathize. The driver is supposed to confirm that they have the correct passenger and there are ways to do that. Uber operates in many madhouse environments like airports where dozens of people are waiting for their ride in the same location at the same time, etc.

I hate Uber as a company but like the service and the workers. I've used them in more cities than I can remember and also in Europe w zero issues. It's incredibly convenient to push a couple buttons on my phone and have a car and driver appear next to me, ready to take me wherever I say.
