What's my car worth - 911SC Targa
Hi guys, I may have an opportunity to pick up a driver quality 930 at what I think is a reasonable price, and was wondering if you might be able to help me put a ballpark value on my current '83 911SC targa. The car is guards red with a black interior, and doesn't appear to have ever been wrecked. It's very solid and shows no signs of rust or rust repair, having been a documented southern car since at least 1984.
The car was last purchased from a dealer in 1984 (I have 1984 sticker from previous owner) and enjoyed and maintained until 2014 when a chain tensioner collapsed. Inspection revealed some broken head studs, and in lieu of a repair, the then owner sold it to his long time mechanic in Memphis.
The car sat in storage for a couple of years until the shop dropped the engine and did a split case rebuild (documented with receipts, etc.), including (probably obviously) new head studs, Carrera tensioners. Additionally the calipers were rebuilt and some other smaller items addressed, all approximately 10,000 miles ago, at which point I became the next owner.
Within the last 10k miles, the following has been done (as well as some other things I may be forgetting):
Targa top rebuilt by Cars Inc.
New front and rear windshield seals (2018)
New front and rear targa seals (2018)
New vent window seals (2019)
RSR rocker shaft seals (2019)
Carrera oil cooler (2019)
New fuel tank, fuel pump, and tunnel lines (2019)
A/C system upgrade with Griffiths lines, Griffith compressor, and Zims third condenser (Griffiths done under prior owner, third consender installed by Zims in 2019)
Factory sport seats recovered in leather
Michelin Pilot Sports with < 10k miles (2018)
3M crystalline thermal film on all windows (2019)
The bad:
The car was repainted at some point in its original Guards Red. No overspray, but definitely what I would consider driver quality (much better than a "20 foot" paint job, but a couple small areas of orange peel). Chips, etc., consistent with regular use. The front seats, dash, door panels, and rear shelf are all in great condition, but the car does have original carpet (under new Lloyds mats) which somewhat dates the interior.
The only factory items on the car that aren't functioning are the overhead dome light in the targa bar (light by glove box works fine) and the factory alarm (relay and key are both gone, and I've never had any issues with it).
Overall, I think it's a great driver quality car that should have a lot of trouble-free miles in it. The air conditioning works great (or as great as it can, I think), and I generally use it as a daily driver unless it's raining.
I'm sure I've left some important facts out, so don't hesitate to let me know what might help with the analysis.
