Once chipped don't forget to keep your contact details up to date!
All our dogs are rescues and all are chipped. Towards the end of last year we said goodbye to our hospice dog and went to the shelter to see what we could find. This little one had been found stray on the street and animal control had picked her up. She was ALREADY chipped and had been at the shelter for a few weeks while they tried calling and emailing the registered owner but with no reply. She was tiny, very much a puppy and still figuring out how to walk with all her legs in sync. We wondered if she'd escaped and got lost, but why wouldn't the owner respond to the messages? Being so young it's hard to imagine they had her chipped and the contact details were out of date already. Possible I suppose, but why wouldn't the owner be checking the shelters? I can't imagine how someone cold abandon such a sweet little dog. Maybe they couldn't tolerate the puppy 'accidents'? Still, it's worked out alright for her and us. She's very smart and picked up her training really well. Home for life!
