You will still need an airstrip, have to fuel up, pre-flight after assembling into airplane format, prepare navigation, peruse Notices to Airmen, check en- route weather, weight & balance, radio check, engine check, before take off.Leave out one of those steps and you risk landing extremely heavily . Really, how much longer would it actually take to pull a proper plane out of it's hangar?
The ideca hat if you came across traffic you could just convert to airplane mode and take off and away is pure fantasy . Ok, once landed , you could convert to car mode and drive into town., But that is exactly what rental cars and/ or taxis are for.
