I survived learning to drive with a Porsche I saved up and bought.
More than 100 bhp.
Today with the modern cars 100bhp is a serious liability when trying to safely make it onto an interstate.
If the modern four door in in front with a 250HP V6 decides to not accelerate until the merge line, the <100HP car behind is completely and utterly hosed.
I would also say it isn't age, but rather ability, and ability to learn, plus attentiveness and taking it seriously.
People can still be scary drivers even at age 50.
