I remember the 745 because I was picking up parts for my 630 at a non authorized BMW service centre/used car sales company that was in Bolton Ontario, the owner(very slimy) brought over a engine from Europe and built a 745, sold it to this customer before sorting it out, the customer was yelling at him as I walked in, the customer had paid another $25k in service in less then 6 months to try and get the car to run for more then a week. From what I heard the owner left and went way south to hide from other customers.
As to spot things it is pretty easy when I drive my e28 a couple times a week, in the 80's my first car was a rusty 1971 2002, and have always had one or two since then.
