Had the same or similar problem a couple years back, a sharp pain in the ball of my feet. Seemed worse at night if I woke up and had to head to the washroom in the night I would make my way on my hands and knees because because it was to painful to walk. I blamed it on walking on hardwood floors in my bare feet.
Any way I bought myself a pair of D.R. Scholl’s leather slippers and the souls were like a jell insert nice and soft. Wore them religiously and it just went away and never came back.
