I agree that you either will or wont like it as a daily driver, and it's just down to personal preference. I think my 997.2 GT3 is probably the best road car I own, and I definitely would NOT describe it as a cup car for the road. I think it's about the most perfect road car that could have been built. Many of the water cooled Mezger sounds are similar to my aircooled hot rod, to the extent that sometimes I forget the GT3 isn't aircooled. I haven't driven a 996 GT3, but I have ridden in several at an autocross. Personally I think the step up to the 997.2 GT3 is very much worth the money, as the extra torque and better engine sound is very noticeable.
