At McM there is a counter off to the side with paper catalogs and phones that go directly to an order desk probably a 1000 miles from where you are standing. You can place your order and then sit down and wait...and wait. Much better to get your order in the day before and simply will call it. In some instances you can place an order before noon and get it that afternoon at the will call.
All you are saving is shipping and your gas is likely more. Most orders placed by 10am will be at your place UPS by the next day. I don't go to the McM brick and mortar anymore. Not worth the time, gas and effort.
Grainger used to be just down the street but now 10 miles away in heavy traffic. So that's a half hour one way, stand around waiting and another half hour back. IOW, all fooking morning.
Fastenal moves around like a drug dealer here locally.

Good advice. I'll add that if you do need to do business with a company that says they only sell to businesses, just act like you're a business. Just give them a company name and they usually don't ask more than that. If they ask for tax ID, tell them you need to pay the tax because you're not reselling whatever it is you're buying.
Back on the counterfeit stuff: A local TV station did a bit on Flex Seal Tape. They tried putting the tape on a bucket of water with a hole in the side and it didn't work. They did a follow up bit explaining that the TV station was contacted by Flex Seal and informed that they must have gotten a hold of counterfeit tape (Amazon!). They redid the test with the real Flex Seal Tape and it worked as advertised.
