I'm at that magical age where these "hair-bands" were simply a bridge between the classic rock I grew up with, and the grunge period where it somewhat returned. Cannot argue the success of bands like MC, et al, but they never resonated enough with me to buy any of their music or see them live.
I'm a huge music geek--but this period, IMHO, was like the comparable malaise period in automobile production. To each his own, of course.
I would go as far to say that I certainly wouldn't try to take anything away from most of the guitarists, drummers and other musicians of this genre; I just didn't like the finished product.
FWIW, I feel the same way about bands like GNR.
The video above is hysterical, but I'd have been pissed if that's what I got once I paid for a ticket.
