I used to work with a chick that heard someone say they were going to "nuke" their coffee to warm it up in the office microwave. She was convinced that it was going to be radioactive. I tried to explain the microwave radiation in nothing like nuclear radiation. There is no block or uranium in the microwave oven. She was never convinced, but she was dumber than a brick, and fired for incompetence shortly afterwards.

My sister got rid of her first microwave oven (which my parents paid something like $800 around 1978) because of fears of "radiation". She will believe anything from anyone but a direct family member.
