Latin. Roman works for me. Small town near Rome called Latium is where it (Latin) originated per web search.
The English called small denomination coins "bits". In the US, certain Spanish/Mexican coins were in circulation that were worth about 12.5 cents. So two of these coins (bits) were worth a quarter in the US.
Some of you guys don't give two cents about this fascinating topic.
