We have a 2005 (generation before yours) V70. Despite being in Europe, the car is US specs, so no diesel. Ours was an auction special which I paid next to nothing for it’s 155k miles and lack of maintenance history. It now has 175k miles. It is front wheel drive only.
It’s been pretty good. Here’s what I like:
Decent power from (2.5T) gas
Will swallow a bunch of stuff
Comfy
Rust free despite snow/salt in winter (this is probably the biggest deal for me)
Parts have generally been pretty cheap
Easy to DIY
Issues we’ve fixed:
Clogged PVC system (probably not an issue on a diesel)
Warped rotors up front (came with these, no issues so far with the replacements)
Rebuilt turbo (due to age/mileage)
Leaking power steering pump (easy diy)
Motor mounts (seems common with newer Volvo’s... we’ve had others from the same generation need replacing
Existing issues mostly relate to the CAN-Bus and electrics. Backlight of knobs and switches on he stereo are inop due to some communication failure of the CAN bus. Stereo works fine otherwise. Sunroof sometimes won’t close (due to faulty alarm system module, motor is fine) so we don’t open it.
The issues are nit picky, IMO, and relate to the cars age, mileage and dubious history. It runs/drives well and has seen much of Central Europe on trips. I’d by another one in a heartbeat as they are very well built.
Yours looks beautiful. Enjoy it!
