I have fought this the last 30 years and hate to hear this about someone so young. My issues started in my 30's.
My suggestion is eat as clean as possible (mostly plants) and eat big early in the day. Best for me not to eat after 3 or 4 pm. Go to bed on an empty stomach. The other advice is to elevate his bed at least 4" at the headboard. Early dinners and an inclined bed has been a game changer for me...
