It will require some power source way beyond our current technology to build a practical flying car. And a lot of new materials and AI and sensors as yet to be invented.
Our airplane is 15 years old, costs more than a house, and requires a long runway to take off and land, and can burn $200 in gas in a few hours, and we spend 400 bucks per month to store it in a hangar. And the required maintenance by a certified mechanic makes Porsche and Ferrari mechanics seem cheap.
I sure don't want to have to buy insurance coverage for my house for all the flying cars driven by folks that can't drive a car around town without crashing on a regular basis.
