This was a really cool thread. Glad the problem was solved. Actually, I'm working on my '89 525i BMW with similar symptoms. And, I have gotten a "new" DME and CPS to try. I'll be hacking wiring in the near future. I enjoyed reading through your efforts. I wonder if you'll ever see this. No matter. I got here after seeing a mention of a Drive Block in a Porsche listing on "Bring a Trailer". I better get over to the BMW forums. Good luck.
