I spent 2 summers in southern Spain, Andalucia. It was odd.
If I went into town later than 11, I was screwed, everything was closed. It didn't open back up until 3. Dinner? The restaurants open at 10pm. It was very interesting to see the culture. I was in college and my dad was in the Navy. I worked in the officer's club doing dishes. Everyone else in the kitchen was a Spanish national. Most of them spoke decent English, but no matter what, the one thing that every one of them was guaranteed to know how to say in English even if they didn't know another phrase or word was "take it easy."
